Mofo Green
Classic Collection ceramic wall flowers have a hierarchy, and the Mofo is at the top of it. The Mofo launched in green at $55. Everyone in the market said that was insane. It sold out in a week. Customers then asked Chive if they could make even bigger flowers. This confused the studio because they had already made the biggest flower they thought was possible. The Mofo is named for what the team called it in the studio — the biggest motherf***ing flower they had ever made — and the name has been accurate since the day it launched. It is retiring with dignity, which it has earned.
The flower that was supposed to be too expensive and too large
Chive had been making ceramic wall flowers retailing at $20–25 before the Mofo. The decision to make the Mofo was a deliberate act of ambition — to produce something large enough that the scale itself became the statement. The green glaze was the original Mofo color, the green that Chive has been working with since 1999. At 11 inches in the Mofo form, the green holds differently than it does in smaller forms — the scale changes the color's relationship to the wall from accent to presence. The Chihuly Garden and Glass carries the Classic Collection. They chose the glossy oil-black custom piece Chive made for the enjoyment of making it, which is the same spirit in which the Mofo was designed.
The Chihuly Garden and Glass carries the Classic Collection. The Art Gallery of Ontario stocks it. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame carries it. The RHS Chelsea Flower Show awarded Chive the 5-star booth award — the highest rating given — for 13 consecutive years.
A gift for the person who wants the retiring-with-dignity flower before it is gone
The Mofo Green ships in a Chive gift box. It hangs with one screw in 90 seconds. The Chihuly Garden and Glass carries it. The person who wants the original large-format Chive flower — the one that proved $55 was not insane — receives it before the retirement is complete.
